What is it like to Stay and Volunteer at Camp Wannacombac as a Quad Leader?
Where will I stay at camp?
Camp Wannacombac is divided into 4 camp quads, and each quad consists of 7 Girl Cabins, one adult Leader Lodge and one Bathhouse. Our Awesome Camp Leaders sleep in one of our Leader Lodges with 4-5 other moms/leaders. They work together to supervise and care for the 20- 28 girls in their QUAD. Each quad has one Leader who is asked to be the Quad Lead. She is an experienced leader that has attended camp before and is essential in guiding the other Leaders throughout the week.
What will I do at camp?
Some of the responsibilities of our Camp Leaders include making sure girls are up in the morning, have their stuff together, and are ready for an amazing day of camp! Camp Leaders oversee Camp CAPERS such as cleaning the bathhouse, picking up trash and helping clean the dining hall after meals. You will be given a Caper Schedule and Chart to make this super-duper easy! Camp Leaders make sure their Quad girls are at Breakfast and Opening on time and are there with them! Camp Leaders also supervise evening showers and comfort tired girls at bedtime.
During the day, everyone at camp has their own schedule to follow. Girls will be heading out to their Badge Workshops, Canteen, Cabin (rest) Time, and Swimming at the lake. All the camp Leaders supervise these activities, according to their own individual schedules.
Some other ways you will serve during camp are as follows:
● Planning for and helping to lead a badge workshop (usually 2 sessions, sometimes 3). You will receive a badge workshop assignment, including contact info for your partner and budget info for acquiring supplies, in late April.
● Helping to prep, serve, and/or clean up one meal each day.
● Working with other Leaders to help supervise girls during cabin time and in the Quad (Cabin Leader).
● Being generally aware and present in all activities to ensure safety and Godly behavior, especially when assigned to be Swim Eyes or Canteen Helper.
Please Note: As Adults Serving at Camp, we are all there to volunteer to make the week amazing for each and every girl that attends Camp Wannacombac. Please plan to be where you are assigned to be at all times. This is what makes Camp run Smoothly!
While serving at Camp Wannacombac is not a vacation, we strive to offer a schedule that runs smoothly and is very rewarding. To sum it up, you will be serving the girls in many, different ways, according to your schedule you’ll receive when you get to camp. In addition, you will receive a notebook with in-depth job descriptions, helpful tips, and our camp guidelines and rules.
A week at Camp Wannacombac is such a fun get-away! We know you’re going to love our piney woods, the beautiful sunsets, the chance to pour into the lives of girls, and the fellowship with other likeminded AHG leaders. We can’t wait to meet you at camp! WooHooty!

Our Camp Dads stay in one of the Cottages located adjacent to the Camp Facilities! Camp Dads work the hardest, therefore we take a little extra care of them! They have air conditioning!
What will I do at camp?
Camp Dads are essential to the running of Camp! Their jobs can include but are not limited to:
Killing Spiders
Teaching Badge Workshops
Helping with Meals
Keeping our Water Jugs full all around camp
The heavy lifting
Being our biggest Cheerleaders!
Mopping Floors
Setting up Tables
Changing Flat Tires
Moving Pop Ups
and much much more....We LOVE our Camp Dads!

Hello Gentlemen!
I’m Brian, I worked as a Camp Dad for Camp Wannacombac for several years. Now I’m the liaison between the camp and other organizations. I’m a volunteer for the American Heritage Girls and Trail Life ministries of our local Church. Most of my work is with the boys, but on occasion I’m asked to teach an AHG lesson, and then there is Camp…I love my time at camp!
I’m writing you about your Daughter, she’s growing up. She graduates High School tomorrow, or it will seem like that when that time gets here. It all goes by too fast. And we all say that, but I want to give you a chance to do something about it.
Camp Wannacombac is a thrilling adventure for your daughter(s)! They will learn new skills and make new friends. They’ll push themselves physically and academically, and they’ll have a blast! I’m here to invite you to be a part of that memory.
Too many times we Dads aren’t there for the “fun” times…we’re at work, or we had to “fix” that, or just “couldn’t” be there. I want you to be deliberate in your decision to be there for this fun time with your daughter. So when she remembers those friends and that time, you’re a part of that.
Camp Dads serve. We’re there to augment the camp experience. Our camp days run from about 6:30 AM until many times 10:00 PM (or later). We lift heavy containers regularly. We set things up and tear things down regularly. We have snake, spider, bee, ant, and any other creepy duty you can think of. Sometimes we get called in the middle of the night, and we answer the call. And we love it.
You’ll likely see your daughter in passing throughout the day, at meals, and during game time when you’re cheering her on.
During camp we are honored with a cottage to live in! Four TO Six men to a cottage. Air conditioning, our own bathroom, kitchen (fully furnished), living room, even satellite TV. You couldn’t ask for more!
Unfortunately, and as a rule, most men aren’t engaged in their local Church ministries, leaving the women to pick up the slack. And ladies you are doing awesome! Gentlemen, I challenge you to come back to the role God called us to. Serve and lead through service.
