As we approach the first week of camp (a little faster than I would like to think), I am reminded of some things that you all might need to know about check-in, canteen, nurse, and check-out procedures.
Check-In. Camp check-in is at 3pm. Please go by the state park office and purchase a state park pass before coming down to the group camp. The gate of the facility within AH Stephens State Park will be unlocked at 3 o'clock. We do not allow any early entries. Check-in at the dining hall in the center of camp. There will be signs to direct you. At sign-in in the dining hall you will need to bring: ALL Forms (Health and Medical, swim test, ect.) Medication and Forms Service Project Items (see email for more info on our service project) Any money due for balance Money to create canteen account Borrowed equipment for us to use for the week (canopies, water coolers, archery equipment) Do NOT come dressed in uniform. Do NOT bring suitcases into the dining hall. At check-in you will be given your cabin assignment and camper packet, which includes schedule, name badge, and camp t-shirt. Parents will need to see the nurse's station to drop off medication (with forms) that will need to be administered to your daughter throughout the week. This includes over the counter medication. Girls are not to self-medicate without prior communication with the nurse for special circumstances. Parents are encouraged to stop by our canteen and speak with the director to set up an account for their daughter. Parents will receive a map of the camp and instructions of where your daughter will be housed, and may then unload their camper at their cabins. Campers who will need to be swim-tested need to return to the lake and see the lifeguards for swim test. Parents should say goodbye and be off campus by 5:30 pm. We will take good care of your daughter! NURSE: Camp Wannacombac has two nurses on campus to administer care to your daughters and to all staff and volunteers. These women are AHG members and are familiar with AHG camp procedures. Please see the nurse at check-in to turn in medication and medication forms. Take this time to discuss with our nurses any medical concerns you may have about your child or our procedures including how we handle medical emergencies. CANTEEN: Please see our canteen director before heading off campus to setup your daughter's canteen account. You can place any amount in the account for your daughter and you can set daily limits if you desire. We recommend $25-$30 for each camper. We have special Camp Wannacombac merchandise, drinks, snacks, ice cream, and the CAMP WANNACOMBAC OWLS!!! You do not have to set up an account for your daughter if you would prefer to have her be responsible with her own money. At the end of the week, at check-out, the canteen director will refund any unspent money back to the camper. Check-Out. Please stop by the AH Stephens Park Office to pick up your day parking pass for admission to the state park before proceeding on to Camp Wannacombac. All parents are invited to our camp closing ceremony at 10am on Saturday morning. Girls are released to their families after the ceremony in the dining hall. You will receive all paperwork to return to your local troop. You will get all health reports and medication returned to you at this time. Please be prepared to help clean up your daughter's cabin and an assigned area of camp. Please be sure to check the lost and found in the dining hall for misplaced items. Make sure to stop by the canteen to close out your account. Please be prepared to help clean up your daughter's cabin and an assigned area of camp. "Many hands make light work" and we must prepare the camp for the following week's camp. We appreciate your cooperation with this. Most campers are on the road home by 12 noon. Miscellaneous, but important! Please begin talking with your camper about her responsibility at camp. She must be able to keep up with her things, get to badge activities on time (we suggest a watch), bring all of her items in and out of the shower and bathe quickly and efficiently. We have approximately 28 girls for 2 shower stalls in each quad. Talk with your camper about our no electronic device policy. Prepare her now. Talk with your camper about being homesick and what that may feel like and discuss ways for her to cope with feelings of missing home. We encourage campers to complete their swim test before arriving at camp. Our lifeguards are available, however, in years past, it has been extremely hot and girls have not acclimated to the heat and standing in line waiting may cause them to get sick. We have had campers to pass out and throw up due to heat exhaustion. We encourage swim testing to be done prior to camp to avoid this happening to your daughter. Talk to your camper about heat exhaustion and staying properly hydrated. We have water stations all over camp and Gatorade and lemonade in the dining hall. Please send a re-fill-able water bottle with your daughter. Please inform your daughter that we encourage one glass of Gatorade a day. The extra calories and electrolytes are crucial to her well-being in the extreme heat. We care about your daughter's health, and we have 12 years of camp experience in the heat and feel that drinking Gatorade, along with water, is one of the most critical things to do to prevent heat exhaustion. We are here if you need us. We are looking forward to spending these glorious days with your daughters and you, if you are joining us. Keep us in your prayers as you are daily in ours. See you soon! Counting down...

When it says "do not bring a suitcase", does that mean just to check-in? Or not at all?

We only mean do not bring your suitcase in to registration. You need to leave it in your vehicle until you go to your cabin.
