Our Camp Planning weekend is behind us and we are looking forward to our amazing Camp theme for our 2022 Summer Camp at Camp Wannacombac! Our theme is Hero, with a focus on how we must Act Justly, Love Mercy, and Walk Humbly in all circumstances!

Our evening activities will be full of fun and craziness as always and our badge offerings are off the charts this year! We bring even more excitement each year,  but we will keep the same Camp away from Home family feeling! We can't wait! Woohooty!

Our Staff is hard at work preparing for our Camp Adventure for Summer 2021! Canteen, Canoeing, Crafts, Evening Games, surprises, and more!!  The lists are being made and reservations are happening! We absolutely cannot wait! WOOHOOTY!

This year we are focusing on the "Heart of a Champion"! Our theme verse for the week is:

Hebrews 12:1
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

In addition to all the fun we have in badge workshops, evening activities and just hanging out, Camp Wannacombac is bringing in a brand new evening activity and you are going to love it! Better start getting that team spirit on!

Camp Wannacombac, 2020 Important Update

6/6/2020

Dear Camp Wannacombac Families,

We pray that this post finds all of you doing well! Please know that you are important to us and you have been in our prayers! This has been an uncertain time for everyone, but we know that God has us all in His hands and that He is in control.  We are so thankful for that!

After MUCH prayer and discussion, the Camp Wannacombac Staff has made the difficult decision to cancel camp for Summer 2020. This is not a decision that we came to lightly and we are sad! However, the safety of our girls is our number one priority!  We want camp to be the BEST experience possible for all our girls. Also with possible shortages of necessary items (such as toilet paper and even certain food items) we do not want to take that risk. With these things in mind, we felt it best to cancel for this year. We appreciate so much your patience and support during our decision making time. You are awesome and we wouldn't be Camp Wannacombac without all of you!

With that being said, We have 2 weeks of camp scheduled for summer 2021!! We already can't wait! WOOHOOTY!!

It is always our pleasure to serve you! Sometimes things don't always go the way we planned, but we know that God's ways ARE perfect!

We will see you SUMMER 2021~~

We are IHS, In His Service, each time we adventure into another year of Camp Wannacombac and we expect our 13th year to be just as exciting and blessed as all the previous years. We give glory to God for the friends and experiences of these years.

Camp Staff is thrilled to offer a Caribbean cruise flair to the 2019 camp experience. We may not have the blue of the Caribbean waters but who's going to miss it with a fun-filled week that includes a Cruise Launch Party, lots of great workshops, fun in the sun, music from the islands, and that fantastic camp food. Get inspired at the Coral Reef. Swim in Mermaid Lagoon. Hang out at the Calypso Cafe, Jellyfish Jetty, or Tankini Bottom. Fine dine at Jamaican Me Hungry. Your Camp Cruise Staff is planning plenty of on-shore excursions.

Speaking of Camp Cruise Staff...we are welcoming aboard new staff members to the team this summer. They are already hard at work learning the ropes and charting new courses for the future of Camp Wannacombac...this thing isn't ready for dry dock!

There are many ports of call on the high seas but we hope you'll cruise with us for Summer, 2019. Check our Facebook page regularly for info, updates, videos, and photos. Registration opens at noon on Saturday, March 16th and will fill quickly. Mark your calendars and chart your course for Camp Wannacombac, 2019.

Fair Winds and Following Seas!

Camp NUTS and BOLTS - 2018

7/19/2018

As we approach the first week of camp (a little faster than I would like to think), I am reminded of some things that you all might need to know about check-in, canteen, nurse, and check-out procedures.

Check-In.
Camp check-in is at 3pm. Please go by the state park office and purchase a state park pass before coming down to the group camp. The gate of the facility within AH Stephens State Park will be unlocked at 3 o'clock.  We do not allow any early entries. Check-in at the dining hall in the center of camp. There will be signs to direct you.
At sign-in in the dining hall you will need to bring:

ALL Forms (Health and Medical, swim test, ect.)
Medication and Forms
Service Project Items  (see email for more info on our service project)
Any money due for balance
Money to create canteen account
Borrowed equipment for us to use for the week (canopies, water coolers, archery equipment)

Do NOT come dressed in uniform. Do NOT bring suitcases into the dining hall.

At check-in you will be given your cabin assignment and camper packet, which includes schedule, name badge, and camp t-shirt.

Parents will need to see the nurse's station to drop off medication (with forms) that will need to be administered to your daughter throughout the week.  This includes over the counter medication. Girls are not to self-medicate without prior communication with the nurse for special circumstances.

Parents are encouraged to stop by our canteen and speak with the director to set up an account for their daughter.

Parents will receive a map of the camp and instructions of where your daughter will be housed, and may then unload their camper at their cabins.

Campers who will need to be swim-tested need to return to the lake and see the lifeguards for swim test.

Parents should say goodbye and be off campus by 5:30 pm. We will take good care of your daughter!

NURSE:
Camp Wannacombac has two nurses on campus to administer care to your daughters and to all staff and volunteers.  These women are AHG members and are familiar with AHG camp procedures. Please see the nurse at check-in to turn in medication and medication forms. Take this time to discuss with our nurses any medical concerns you may have about your child or our procedures including how we handle medical emergencies.

CANTEEN:
Please see our canteen director before heading off campus to setup your daughter's canteen account.  You can place any amount in the account for your daughter and you can set daily limits if you desire. We recommend $25-$30 for each camper.  We have special Camp Wannacombac merchandise, drinks, snacks, ice cream, and the CAMP WANNACOMBAC OWLS!!!
You do not have to set up an account for your daughter if you would prefer to have her be responsible with her own money.
At the end of the week, at check-out, the canteen director will refund any unspent money back to the camper.

Check-Out.
Please stop by the AH Stephens Park Office to pick up your day parking pass for admission to the state park before proceeding on to Camp Wannacombac.
All parents are invited to our camp closing ceremony at 10am on Saturday morning. Girls are released to their families after the ceremony in the dining hall. You will receive all paperwork to return to your local troop.  You will get all health reports and medication returned to you at this time.  Please be prepared to help clean up your daughter's cabin and an assigned area of camp.   Please be sure to check the lost and found in the dining hall for misplaced items.  Make sure to stop by the canteen to close out your account.  Please be prepared to help clean up your daughter's cabin and an assigned area of camp. "Many hands make light work" and we must prepare the camp for the following week's camp.
We appreciate your cooperation with this.  Most campers are on the road home by 12 noon.

Miscellaneous, but important!
Please begin talking with your camper about her responsibility at camp. She must be able to keep up with her things, get to badge activities on time (we suggest a watch), bring all of her items in and out of the shower and bathe quickly and efficiently. We have approximately 28 girls for 2 shower stalls in each quad.
Talk with your camper about our no electronic device policy. Prepare her now.
Talk with your camper about being homesick and what that may feel like and discuss ways for her to cope with feelings of missing home.
We encourage campers to complete their swim test before arriving at camp. Our lifeguards are available, however, in years past, it has been extremely hot and girls have not acclimated to the heat and standing in line waiting may cause them to get sick. We have had campers to pass out and throw up due to heat exhaustion. We encourage swim testing to be done prior to camp to avoid this happening to your daughter.
Talk to your camper about heat exhaustion and staying properly hydrated. We have water stations all over camp and Gatorade and lemonade in the dining hall. Please send a re-fill-able water bottle with your daughter. Please inform your daughter that we encourage one glass of Gatorade a day. The extra calories and electrolytes are crucial to her well-being in the extreme heat.  We care about your daughter's health, and we have 12 years of camp experience in the heat and feel that drinking Gatorade, along with water, is one of the most critical things to do to prevent heat exhaustion.

We are here if you need us.  We are looking forward to spending these glorious days with your daughters and you, if you are joining us.  Keep us in your prayers as you are daily in ours.

See you soon!  Counting down...

How to register

2/20/2018

Hi Friends!  After yesterday's post I have had several inquiries about how registration works for both girls and adults, so I thought an article may help explain.  So grab some coffee or tea, settle in because we have a lot to cover.

It all begins with a link!  A link to both our registration forms (girl and adult) will be emailed, posted on our Facebook page and our buttons (links under the Registration tab) on our website will be activated.

Once you link to a form, (I'm including a link to PDF preview below), fill out all areas and submit.

    *
Badge selection is taken at the time of registration. Note that you will need to rank your daughter's list of badge requests, so talking to her beforehand about what is offered will help.

*A change that will be noticeable for you all returning to camp, is that we will no longer allow any changes to cabin roommates after arriving to camp. You MUST indicate your roommate requests on your registration form and we will do our best to accommodate. If you do not have any roommate requests, we will place you with girls in your current unit level (Explorer, Pioneer, or Patriot) and/or troop location.  Be aware that roommate requests cannot cross units, for example: Explorers cannot request to room with Pioneers or Patriots.

*We provide loads of options for our camper's daily meals. One of our greatest testimonies is that we have the best food of any camp around.  Even with all of our options, we still find that there are girls that have strict dietary needs that sometimes have been difficult to manage while at a camp (with no air conditioning) where there isn't open access to a kitchen (our staff are in our kitchen all day prepping, cooking, serving, cleaning from one meal to the next; it doesn't stop from 6am til 9pm), so we are choosing to only accommodate girls who have a medical condition that limits their dietary needs.  We will no longer accommodate healthy lifestyle choices as a reason to supplement meals. We offer many options at every meal to accommodate almost anything. We provide gluten free options for every meal. A copy of our menu will in a link below.

*All campers who take medication while at camp both prescription and over the counter must indicate what medications they anticipate will be needed and any medical conditions that need to be explained to the Health and Safety Lead to determine camp eligibility. We are in a rural setting, at least 40 minutes from any medical facility and critical conditions should be considered risky if you would like to attend camp. Therefore, you must submit a form from your physician stating that you are fit to attend camp.
ALL CAMPERS MUST BRING WITH THEM TO CAMP, THEIR HIGH ADVENTURE MEDICAL FORM, that is completed by A PHYSICIAN, per AMERICAN HERITAGE GIRLS, INC.

*We do not accept any electronic payments for camp deposits or payments. All checks should be remitted to:
Camp Wannacombac
PO Box 304
Abbeville, SC 29620

Special information for Adult forms:

Be prepared to indicate where you would like to serve at camp. Everyone serves somewhere! Most of serve all day long.
If you play musical instrument, have lifeguarding certification or are a nurse, please let us know on the form.

If you have additional questions after reading this post and looking at our forms, please contact me via our website or directly through our email.

We are in the middle...

We are excited to share our camp planning progress with you as of February 2018.
Our team just came down from the mountain (literally) after spending all weekend collaborating together on this year's camp.
Our theme is Mission ImPossible!  We are going to have so much fun exploring who we are in Christ and how we can impact the world with our good news of the gospel, all while canoeing, swimming, making and building stuff and rescuing each other.
Many of our returning friends know how much fun we have at camp with our zany activities, loud and moving opening ceremonies, bonding time and skills building workshops. We hope you will be curious about what we have in store for you in 2018.

Camp registration will open on March 3rd at 10am. We anticipate beds will be filled quickly so be prepared to go on time.

What to pack for camp...

5/24/2017

When attending summer camp, you need to pay close attention to the list given to you.  Items are on that list because they are important or useful. We here at Cam,p Wannacombac have been leading camp for over 10 years and we have tailored the list to meet your camper's needs and to ensure you have everything to make your week the best it can be!

Now that you have seen what you need to bring to camp, let's talk about the ever NOT popular topic of what NOT to bring to camp.  We really want your camper's experience to be the very best it can be and we have reviewed our 10 years of experience at Camp Wannacombac very carefully and found that certain items NEED to be left at home to fulfill that agenda.  We know that the number 1 item on our list to leave at home causes some anxiety for our campers and parents but we have found that leaving this item at home or locked away with a troop leader or camp director is best for everyone: The camper, camper's cabin-mates, and  camp leaders.  In this day and age when so much of our time is consumed with screen time, it is invaluable to shut out the world every once in a while and take in the moments that we are experiencing.  We understand your anxiety, we feel it too, but we KNOW, that this is best for everyone. We have even written a little article to explain our position and why we stand behind this policy.

CELL PHONE POLICY
We have always taken the safety and well-being of our campers-your children–very seriously. After all, giving your children over to the care of other people is perhaps the greatest act of trust you as a parent can engage. We aim to do everything we can to earn and keep that trust.  Given the current developments in our culture, including the increased use of cell phones, internet and text messaging, we appeal to you as parents-our partners-to help us maintain as safe an environment for your children at camp as we can. As you may or may not know we have a “no cell phone” policy at camp. Aside from the fact that cell phones are expensive and can get lost or stolen and that the physical camp environment is not kind to such items, there is a fundamental problem with campers having cell phones at camp, and that is trust. When your children come to camp, they and you, are taking a leap of faith, transferring their care from you as their parents, to us and their counselors.  We encourage you with this, if there is a problem that your children cannot solve on their own or with our help, we will call you.  We will call with any king of medical emergency. We won’t call you so your child can tell you goodnight. But we will call you if your child cannot seem to overcome her homesickness. We thank you for trusting us with your daughter and we certainly want you to understand that her safety is our primary concern. So we ask that you abide by our “no cell phone” policy.

PLEASE DO NOT PACK THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
Electronics (including cell phones, ipods, ipads, computers, electronic games, radios, etc.), food, family dog or cat, tobacco, illegal drugs, fireworks, firearms, family heirlooms, portable air conditioners, valuables, large amounts of money, photocopiers, cinder blocks, bars of gold, ice cream, or your pet gold fish.
If you have questions about the suitability of items for camp, please email or call.

Costume Parade 2017

5/23/2017

For the last several years we have offered the campers an opportunity to dress up and parade before their friends and camp volunteers, and let me tell you, these girls and yes, even some leaders, have taken to this opportunity to shine! We have LOVED seeing the creativity and passion of these young ladies as they strut the parade route.
We are excited to once again offer this now annual camp experience again this summer.  Our theme this year will be "Be the Future". Girls can create costumes that they think we may see in our future. Are you up for the challenge?
Here are some fun costumes that were found on the web to inspire your camper!!

Most of us have been involved with AHG for over 15 years and many of us on staff for Camp Wannacombac for 14 years. We have the best jobs at camp but are ever grateful for our adult volunteers who hold us up and fill in the gaps.
We love these girls and we love serving them each summer!
